thank you. topping our news this morning an abduction attempt has parents and students on edge. noelle walker is outside sudder elementary school where a man tried to lure a young boy. >> reporter: this is a goodly is in what a child is supposed to do under these circumstances. the boy told the man he didn't know him and walked away from him. the suspect is described as a caucasian man with gray hair and facial stubble. he was driving a light blue late model '70 era car. the man was last seen sitting in his car in the parking lot of a park. that is a short walk away from suddel elementary school. the boy's mother called the school saying a man tried to lure her boy into a car. we just talked to a father that moved to this neighborhood. >> that is shocking.

i just moved out here. i'm not used to having to worry about that. it was kind of shocking to me. >> reporter: so again the school has put out a warning to parents parents and students to be on the lookout for this man. again it's a good lesson and good time to remind your own kids there is stranger danger out there. if they see something, best to simply walk away. reporting live in antioch noelle walker. police have arrested a middle school student who allegedly bullied two other students in morgan hill. two 13-year-olds at britain middle school reported a bully assaulted them. school resource officers told the student to stay away but he threatened two students outside of school. the boy will have a juvenile court hearing with his parents. the big game is just nine days away. and san francisco city leaders are considering tough measures

toecap -- the message going to san francisco bars this morning. paul. >> reporter: good morning, brian. that was just a few months ago civic center hall was packed with giants fans who win the world series. that will not happen with the super bowl because the nfl does not allow public viewing parties. that will not stop a lot of niner fans from having celebrations of their own. this was a scene of chopper 2 after people took to the streets. mayor ed lee is asking that places serving hard liquor be a little more responsible. >> to suggest that they serve something with heavy alcohol. any duration doesn't help. >> reporter: next week the mayor and police chief will visit areas hit by vandals. they will be talking about 450 to 500 officers added to the streets for super bowl sunday. that is lee times the amount of a normal sunday.

it was trying to hit a convoy instead the bomber rammed into two houses. killing five civilians and injuring another 25 people. the u.s. military will not lower its fiscal standards as it opens up direct combat jobs to women. defense secretary leon panetta says the goal is to insure the mission is met with the best qualified and most capable people regardless of gender. now the military will have until january 2016 to fully implement the new policy. vice president joe biden is taking the white house campaign for gun control on the road. biden is hosting a round table discussion in richmond, virginia for experts who worked on gun safety. coming up at 6:15 the other efforts under way to pressure congress to vote for gun control. a new service on bart will improve wi-fi and safety. they will get free wi-fi. the contract is to buy devices

that stream live video to security and control centers but they are also going to create wireless hot spots. bart's current access has been the subject of complaint. today would be a good day to take public transit. that means you also can't burn wood or fire logs unless that is your only source of heat. air quality managers says the recent rain has not been enough to flush out the particulates in the air. it is the ninth of the season so far. sal, you're look agent the east bay right -- looking at the east bay right now? >> that is right. we are looking at roads getting more filled with cars. if you are driving on 80 westbound, it is getting a little bit more busy. it's not stop and go between richmond and berkeley and into the toll plaza. when you get to the toll -- it looks like they might turn them on pretty soon. no major problems if you are drying on the peninsula.

101 and 280 looking pretty good. it's about 20 minutes from 92 all the way up to pacifica. now let's go to steve. sal, thank you. good morning, i'm johnny cash. [ laughter ] i've been walking the line that is for sure. we have a little low down in southern california. for us it gave us steady light rain. this system to the north is pushing everything south. but it's not enough to get the fog out of here. in fact, most locations at 6:00 a.m. say fog and it's getting thicker as well. a lot of reports up north bay. now most rain looks like it's over. upper 40s very low 50s. here's a fine line. i think the coldest is concord i saw at 46. there is a couple readings at 54. you can see some of that shower activity about done. pushing off toward the sierra nevada. our system to the north will keep some cloud cover in the

picture. partly sunny and partly cloudy. the rain moves south. maybe a few lingering showers. looks like most is about done here. lots of clouds. mild temps. 60s. temperatures after that patchy fog maybe light rain toward santa clara valley or out to the east bay but not too much. low 60s on the temps. we will continue this all the way from the north bay and east bay. on the coast and down to the santa clara valley. it does look partly sunny on saturday. a cooler system drops in. the cool air will settle in next week looking dry. cool morning lows coming back. 6:07 is the time. new demonstrations in egypt. what is behind new protests as the country marks two years since the uprising. victims of hurricane sandy are going to find it harder than they thought to rebuild their homes. star wars franchise gets a new movie and new director. who disney reportedly hired to make episode seven. o can withss of air travel?

new video from egypt of protestors and police clashing in ere rear square. today marks the second anniversary of the up rising that toppled former leader hosni mubarak. they are not happy with the current president and say he is forming another dictatorship. bobby jindal had harsh words for his fellow republicans. >> we've got to stop being the

stupid party. and i'm serious. it's time for a new republican party that talks like adults. it's time for us to articulate our plans and visions for america in real terms. >> he went on to say it's no secret a number of republicans have damaged our brand with bizarre and offensive comments. end quote. he urged republicans to rethink their arguments against democrats and how they can appeal to voters. the wait for answers surrounding the deadly elementary school shooting in newtown, connecticut got a whole lot longer. state prosecutor says they won't have their report ready until june at the earliest. last month a gunmen opened fire killing 20 children and six adults. the shooting is still under investigation. in less than two hours vice president joe biden joe biden is leading a round table on gun violence. this is just the first of several nation-wide stops planned. kyla. >> reporter: joe biden and president obama plan on heading around the country in the

coming weeks to get support for the president's gun safety policies. biden will emphasize the importance of background checks and limiting high capacity magazines when he speaks in richmond, virginia. he wants people to consider the white house plans as gun safety not gun control. control senator dianne feinstein reintroduced a ban for high capacity guns. banning specific guns snot dealing with the real problems. >> that is not looking seriously at mental health, not looking seriously at violent games, looking seriously at violent movies. looking seriously to a variety of games. >> the white house says it has

police nation-wide on their side. live in washington kyla campbell. the senate is set to vote monday on a rebill for super storm sandy. the money is urgently needed. sandy hit the east coast last october killing 140 people and destroying homes and businesses. the house passed the emergency relief bill last week. new jersey storm victims won't be able to rebuild their homes exactly the way they were before that storm. that is because the federal emergency management agency has redone the flood maps along the jersey shore for the first time in 20 years. they put that area in a higher risk zone. new jersey governor chris christie says property owners will see a benefit to new tougher building standards. >> you will see lower insurance costs in the long run if you do not and your property is rebuilt without meeting fema updated standards, you will see increases in your peopleups and -- your premiums and properties will be less safe. >> the governor says the new standards will have higher costs. but the guidelines will go into effect in a few days.

we are learning a suspect in a hostage situation was wanted for questioning in the burglary here. antwon held a woman against her will for several hours on wednesday. the woman eventually ran from the home and not hurt. police arrested adger. they later learned he had an outstanding warrant for burglary. a car fire forced the evacuation of an apartment building in redwood city. it happened just before midnight near elle camino real. the car was parked in a carport when it caught fire. tenants believe it was set intentionally >> i hear the alarm going off. i came down to see what was going on. i open my door and immediately i see smoke. >> there were no injuries. firefighters kept the flames

from spreading to upstairs units. later tonight one of the runways at san francisco international airport will be closed again for construction. that means this weekend sfo will only be able to handle about half the 60 flights an hour. travelers are expected to check for delays before heading to the airport. the runway will reopen at 8:00 monday morning. oracle ceo ellison will rejoin the effort to keep the kings from moving to seattle. ellison tried to buy the warriors back in 2010. the mayor needs a competitive counteroffer to keep the kings. >> we're trying to do what we need to do. from our advantage point it's a competitive vantage. we are read deto two in sacramento. >> the king's majority owners are not letting partners match

the seattle offer. football fans across the country we are talking about two brothers. and now the harbaugh family is giving the media even more to talk about. the new movie about steve jobs will debut at the sun dance festival. there is -- the first scene of the movie never actually happened. he also says the personalities are wrong. looks like the new star movies will be directed by jj abrams. he was the man in charge of the recent star trek debut on tv. disney says the new movie is due out in 2015. >> not going to lie with jj

abrams on board it will be exciting. let's go to sal. you're looking at oakland. >> that is right. we are starting there brian, and pam. 880 oakland one of the workhorse freeways of the bay area. and it looks good here. southbound on the left you can see traffic getting down to the airport and beyond that to hayward it looks good on the right that is very lightly traveled so far. a lot of people going to the bay bridge at this hour. and the traffic there looks good. the traffic at the san mateo also is light heading out to the high-rise. we've been looking at the peninsula. once you get over from the san mateo bridge traffic looks good on 101 northbound. if you drive south from let's say 380 to 92, about eight minute drive. not a bad drive at all. across the bay that traffic does look good. let's go to steve. thank you, sal. a very good morning. well, for most. we do have a lot of fog around the area. be careful. some of that is getting thicker. it looks like most of the rain has stopped very mild temps. upper 40s to low to mid 50s.

good morning. northbound 280 traffic getting up to highway 17. that is looking very nice. no major problems driving up to highway 17 and beyond that into cupertino. rushing waters are causing dangerous conditions in australia. five days of heavy rain have left several parts of the country under water.

it's all thanks to the remains of the once tropical cyclone oswald. the storm was downgraded but once again gaining strength. roads have shut down and authorities are preparing for the worse. we are bring ewe firsthand look at your tax dollars at work. ktvu cameras got a peek inside the tunnels. we found crews with headlamps operating heavy machinery and installing lighting. federal stimulus funds are paying for two-thirds of the project. contra costa county taxpayers are funding for the rest. >> when the fourth ward is done cal tran will be dedicating two bores perm lently -- permanently to eastbound traffic and two to westbound traffic. >> they will begin laying the roadbed next month. the bore is set to open later this year. retired contra costa county fire captain is accused of stealing gears from fire

stations. he faces grand theft and burglary charges. they recovered 268 stolen items. including uniforms, tools, and other items. he retired just before getting arrested. he's out on $30,000 bail. it looks like senior officials from the states park department has dodged a big bullet. charges won't be filed after allegations they hid millions of dollars in state funds. the funding scandal came as the state threatened to close 70 parks because of dozens of budget cuts. the super bowl has a new name this year. the har-bowl. there have been countless stories about the battle between both brothers. yesterday the harbaugh family gave the media even more to talk about it. it happened when the parents jim and john took part in a conference call. listen closely. >> our next question comes from john from baltimore.

are. that is probably we'll test that level today. we'll have all the business news coming up. good morning thank you for joining us i'm brian flores. >> and i'm pam cook. >> new concerns in antioch after a man reportedly tried to lure a young boy into his car. noelle walker is in antioch. noelle. >> reporter: we have been talking to parents in this neighborhood as they are heading off for work this morning. they will just now hearing about the attempted abduction of a fifth grade boy who is a student here at sutter elementary in antioch. the boy's mother called the school yesterday to report a man trying to get her son into his car by telling that boy a family member sent him to pick him up. the the boy said i don't know you and walked away. he was last seen in the parking lot sitting in his car. now that park is located a short walk away just behind the school. i asked a father that lives across from that park what he

tells his four kids to do when approached by a stranger. >> not to go to them. just walk away and scream as loud as they can. and ask for help. they carry their own phones. they can call 911 right away. >> reporter: now we have a suspect description. the suspect is a caucasian male. he has gray hair. some facial stubble. he was last seen driving a light blue '70s era car. and again last seen in the parking lot of the park. the janitor arrived o open the gates tells us the school widened its perimeter after the report of this attempted abduction and staff have been patrolling that area. reporting live in antioch noelle walker ktvu channel 2 news. san jose police are looking for a group of men responsible for a deadly stabbing.

it happened around 8:30 last night near south side drive and hope street. the suspects approached the victim and stabbed him several times. investigators don't have a motive for the attack. they are also trying to identify the male victim. he did not have any identification on him. a short time ago he walked -- we walked to a neighbor who's concern this will lead to more violence in the neighborhood. >> very unsettling. this is a really quiet street. it's a nice neighborhood. and i know we lost a lot of sleep. >> reporter: this was san jose's third homicide of the year and second in consecutive days. >> a preliminary hearing is scheduled in san francisco this morning in connection to the murder of a suspected pimp. there are four defendants in the case. prosecutors are consolidating the four cases into one. calvin sneed was shot and killed last june. police believe they were trying to protect the 17-year-old girl

who was part of prostitution. more than 50 restaurant owners are being targeted for charging extra fees to cover the city mandated health care coverage. the city claims only a third of that money went to medical cost. today san francisco city attorney plans to require a handful of businesses to pay back. the countdown starts for super bowl sunday. this proposal involves bars and booze. >> reporter: good morning, pam. of course the mayor ed lee and other city officials know people will be out and about partying during a super bowl. they just want accomplishments and peel to be responsible. we have seen the video of the vandals going wild after the giants world series victory. in an effort to prevent

something from like happening again. next week mayor ed lee will tour these areas hit by vandals and discuss the city's plan for super bowl sunday. it will be similar but hopefully as effective as a plan they implemented last week. on super bowl sunday fspd will have 450-500 officers on the street. that is three-times the normal amount on sunday. if that weren't enough, fire marshals will be out keeping the peace closing bars down that may be overcrowded or too rowdy. >> it's inside the bar where people drink too much. they get outside and a fight starts. and that is exactly what we don't want to happen. >> reporter: now one major part of the city's plan may be controversial to some. mayor lee wants bars who sell hard liquor to take responsible and stop serving or give alternative to hard liquor. the plan could work, however implementing it could be a problem because cutting a drinker off isn't easy. >> it's a challenge because everybody is excited. everybody wants to drink.

the sharks are back on the ice in san jose. fans cheered as the doors opened. they even bear hugged the mascot. business is booming again. sell out crowd watched the sharks beat phoenix 5-3 to remain undefeated. 6:36 is the time. back over to sal. he's starting in san francisco. >> yes, we are. we are looking at the freeways there pam and brian. northbound 101 approaching the 80 split. not a bad job at all. the southbound 101 in case you are trying to go down to san bruno to catch a flight. it's a very nice drive all the way through. this morning's commute looks pretty good if you are driving on the westbound bay bridge. we haven't had a big crowd yet. we hope it will stay this way.

no major problems on the bridge either. and in santa clara valley northbound 101 and 280 still look pretty good. northbound 280 traffic looks good into cupertino. if you are driving into the south bay it's also off to a good start. let's go to steve. thank you, sal. a very good morning. a lot of fog around the area. and also temperatures look like they are going to stay on the mild side. at least until sunday. then a cooler system will drop in. a lot of fog and most of the rain is gone here. it's in southern california. also move into the north and up to the sierra, nevada. there is a lot of fog here anisate to the sacramento valley. the system that brought us our rain is push into southern california. most of that light rain is gone. upper 40s. low to mid 50s. there is a lot of moisture in the air. our pattern changed dramatically. a little bit of rain this morning. most of that is done. that system to the north is pushing everything out of here expect the fog and partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies

in the morning. but there is pretty good rain down in southern california. clouds and sun and mild. patchy fog. light rain to the south. i think most of that is about done. low 60s on the temps. and i think even coast bay inland everybody within a couple degrees. weekend always in view there partly sunny. cool breezy on sunday. the lows will get back down into the 30s. huge flames from a building fire in massachusetts but it was the freezing conditions that proved more challenging to firefighters. spray from fire hoses formed ice and made for slippery conditions on the ground and look at that firefighters helmet. icicles actually forming on the helmets and jackets while they were fighting that fire. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. that is cold. >> yeah very cold. time now 6:38. we've been talking about the flu but a nasty new strain of norovirus is spreading in the u.s.. we'll talk about the best way to avoid getting sick. we are live in morgan hill

time now 6:42. here's a quick look at the top stories we're following right now. san jose police a investigating the city's third homicide of the year and the second in consecutive days. a group of men walked up to a victim in south san jose and stabbed him several times. investigators are searching far motive. they are looking for a gray van that left the crime scene right after the attack. parents in san touch -- parents in antioch are being warned about a man who tried to lure a boy into his car. this morning vice president joe biden is hosting a round table on gun violence in richmond, virginia. taking part in the round table are those that worked on gun violence after the 2007 shooting at virginia tech. the boy is not only in trouble with the school he's in trouble with the law. janine de la vega is in morgan hill now to explain what police say the boy did. >> reporter: some of the

bullying occurred here at britain middle school. two 13-year-old boys say they were cyber bullied. they didn't tell officials but instead police were notified. the two boys had been threatened at school and assaulted at their home by a fellow classmate who is 14 years old. the police had the school resource officer speak to the boys at the school. but later that day police say the suspect threatened one of the victims at school after at a community center skate park and followed up with threatening texts and postings on facebook. investigators cited that young boy for battery, making harassing phone calls, and discharging a soft air weapon within city limits. the student is also facing disciplinary action by the school district. this case highlights their strong stance on bullying and how it will not tolerate this behavior. they are encouraging other kids to report any type of bullying as well as cyber bullying to the teachers immediately.

norovirus strain has caused 140 outbreaks here. it has hit japan and western europe. symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea. hundreds of volunteers fanned out across san francisco to count the city's homeless. the census is taken every two years. the information is used to secure millions of dollars in federal funding to provide services to homeless. last nights numbers will be added to other counts done by city staff at golden gate park, hospitals, and shelters and a final tally is expected in a few weeks. we checked san francisco's last survey in 2011. it shown more than 6400 homeless living on city streets. 10% reported they were part of a homeless family. 20% blamed alcohol or drug abuse as the primary cause on their homelessness. it has been a remarkable season for the 49er.

meanwhile it's been 24 years since ilene was abducted while walking home from school in dublin. next wednesday her family is planning to mark the anniversary with a candle light walk and service. this years event will start at 7:00 p.m.. the walk will mark the path taken by ilene the day she disappeared. 32-year-old isaac mcdaniels received a 35 year prison sentence yesterday. he was convicted of being an accessory. he was accused of giving the gun to the accused gunman. there is conflicting information about whether or not the shooting of two shall shootings in the east bay my be connected to a pair of shoes. the shooting happened wednesday beneath the bart tracks.
